During my juvenile era, we were appeased with whatever available resources that our libraries could offer although hardly any updated reference materials were received. Television was then operated by a sole giant network (if not two), while international channels via satellite were not aired in the province where I grew-up – really, NOT at ALL!
Whatever I perceived of ART then was kind of limited, by reason of its ‘SCARCITY’ in sources, materials, mentors, exemplars, paragons, and definitely – budget. My drawing pen had kicked my inclination even before I entered school, while limited influences were introduced in my early education.
I remember organizing and dressing-up our dwelling according to my taste and interest with the reusable cheap stuff dragged from our junkyard. I collected and framed stamps, labels, branded tags, perfume bottles, and deadly weapons. Somehow I became an architect of my own stadium … and seldom could I encounter somebody doing the same that time (or maybe none at my age).
Doing now what’s weird for others and stylish for some, I still represent my OLD SELF. I would mix-and-match and recreate what’s defined to be (sort of) ‘OKAY’. The gigantic difference is – the world is currently spoiling us with boundless information in just a tick on our computer and easy access to travel itineraries where we get ‘self-impact’ from.
In any way or another, we could still go back to our conventional libraries to be able to distinguish our diversities and later on express ourselves the way we thought we should. Our personal ‘Art Canvass’ is no longer limited to a television box or rotten library books. Truly, there are still eyes that behold the beauty of your ART.
