My mother was a native of Polangui (Albay), a few kilometer-drive away from Ligao. We used to visit there when my grandparents, lolo Felix & lola Tibay, were still alive. Mama's siblings are all based in Bicol, except for their youngest brother, who disappeared and left his brood to his parents and never came back again. I had only few bowing acquaintances with my relatives (mother side) as our age gaps are quite colossal. The simplest family you could ever imagine, my mother had a very conservative upbringing. She was mentioning Lola Tibay had dominating rules in the family...much stronger than what lolo Felix could instigate.
Asthma had made me a constant hospital guest when I was a child. Mama was there all throughout when "bag of bones" described me best. She just couldn't afford to play tranquility whenever her children are ailing. In fact, she's trully a Nightingale...somebody you could depend on in any request you wished her to participate...in nursing...in cooking...in home-care...and errands related to pertinent documents and money.
I personally commend my mother for looking after my father's mother and two single brothers when they were all ill. I just couldn't describe the sincerity and dedication she had bequeathed for quite a lot of years. Hence, whenever I feel unwell...I just miss her more!
