ATE DEN & KAT: Sisters Act

As I grew up with close supervision of my parents, I also got closer to my cousins. The first two kids who I personally knew then were Ate Denden & Kathy, both daughters of papa’s eldest sister, Mom Chit. Upon shifting to Bicol, I encountered three- Kuya Joff, Kuya Jiji, and Joy-all sons of Mom Ditas.

I couldn’t refute the fact that aging while browsing elbows with my first cousins is gratifying since you’re not only banking on limited dealings. Majority of us would still prefer family with a larger quantity and quality in particular.

Kathy, simply described as my BEST COUSIN, seemed having a blood compact with me to seal a treaty of endless friendship. Spending her vacation with us when we were younger would mean valuable time, exchanging whereabouts, shelving cloak-and-dagger, witnessing thrills & sorrows, and practicing what elders preached.

I’d seen the best and not so good of her emotions. Come hell or high water, I would be the first person to know. I started writing because of our distances. That was one of a kind…we exchanged letters (and I still keep those) via postal services at least twice a week. Mobile phones, pagers and internet weren’t accessible at that era.

An ultimate family provider, a successful businesswoman, an academically equipped pro, a wise spender, a trustworthy professional, an honest mammal, a big cheese, a committed wife, another obsessive compulsive, a health conscious, an early bloomer, a bag lover, a thoughtful ego, a gutsy character, a loyal friend, a prayerful soul, a consistent supporter, a professional diver, a classy-capable, and a mother-to-be.

Kathy just holds unbounded adjectives. I AM SO PROUD OF HER!

Ate Den, another counterpart in obsessive compulsiveness, has always the tendency to live a one-day millionaire buoyancy. She’s everybody’s Ate; a mother of six who just manages stress easily.

We have actually lots in common:

Apart from being the eldest & asthmatic then, WE BOTH love to eat…love to decorate…love to stroll at the mall…love to fix the mess…love to re-fix what has been fixed (test the compulsion)…love to shop…love the groceries…love to spend…love to give…love to talk…love the scraps…love to read…love music and movies… love to be armchair critics…and love to work abroad.

YES, among all the cousins, we’re the only two who opted to pursue a career overseas. After our preschool days, it had been a privilege to live with her again in one roof for more than a year (in Dubai).

Family’s Kris Aquino would best describe her: One who could do a non-stop chitchatting, one who’s genuinely generous, one’s favorite, one who’s tactless with sophistication, one who loves shoes, one who’s eloquent, one who easily empathizes, and one who could unintentionally reveal your secrets to others (so don’t provoke).

A single moment with Ate Den could be adequate to know her well. She’s a TRUE BLUE!
